Since 1828, Rampal master soap makers have maintained ancestral know-how by manufacturing genuine Marseille soap and perpetuating the traditional Marseille cauldron process, in their Provençal factory in Salon de Provence. Respecting artisanal know-how, it is still produced today using the so-called Marseille process. Traditionally, Marseille soap is made from vegetable oils, soda, salt and water. To make our white Marseille soap, we carefully and rigorously select our raw materials, using, for example, purified vegetable oils exclusively, or Salies-de-Béarn salt. Our aim is to offer you a Marseille soap of exceptional purity, which respects and moisturises your skin. To design it, we start by heating the vegetable oils in a cauldron. After adding the soda, these vegetable oils will turn into a thick mass. The saponification process then begins. To remove excess soda, unsaponified fatty acids and impurities, the soap is washed with salt water. Finally, it goes through the liquidation stage to become a smooth paste, then is air-dried and moulded.
In our soap factory, we strive to protect traditional Marseille soap, while being innovative. To meet current expectations and concerns, particularly regarding environmental footprint, we have reworked our way of manufacturing our Marseille soap to reduce our energy and water consumption. We have perfected our cauldron manufacturing technique by preserving natural glycerine at the heart of Marseille soap, thanks to an innovative method, patented by INPI since 2019. This glycerine, produced naturally without addition during saponification, gives our white Marseille soap its strong moisturising power, and makes it particularly gentle on the skin. This patented technique makes it possible to obtain a product of superior quality, both environmentally and dermatologically.
