A soap factory established in Salon de Provence, the soap capital since 1873

In the 19th century, Salon-de-Provence followed in Marseille's footsteps, its ambition being to continue and develop soap making. In 1873, the town became one of the main regional centers for soap manufacturing and trading thanks to its significant oil resources, the gradual mechanization of production, and the arrival of the railway.

The First World War and then the advent of powdered laundry detergents brought an end to decades of euphoria for the soap-making industry. While there were twelve soap factories in Salon-de-Provence in 1900, only two remain today, including our soap factory, Rampal Latour, proud to pass on and constantly improve its expertise as master soap makers, and to promote Marseille soap, made with respect for tradition.
