A soap factory established in Salon de Provence, the soap capital since 1873
In the 19th century, Salon-de-Provence followed in Marseille's footsteps, with the ambition of continuing and developing soap production. In 1873, the city became one of the main regional centers for soap manufacturing and trading thanks to its significant oil resources, the progressive mechanization of production, and the arrival of the railway.
The First World War, followed by the advent of powdered detergents, brought an end to decades of euphoria for soapmaking. While there were twelve soap factories in Salon-de-Provence in 1900, only two remain today, including our soap factory, Rampal Latour, proud to transmit and constantly improve its master soapmaker's expertise, and to promote Marseille soap, made with respect for tradition.
